This is the document that put the frequent references of "blighted area" into perspective for Terry Persson, Howard McOmber, and Inez Petersen on the day that they attended, as silent observers, the Renton City Council Offsite held at the Renton VoTech on March 8, 2006. Discussions focused on Option A, and at the end of the day, there was verbal agreement amongst all the employees and the city councilmembers present that Option A was the way to go. Of course, this was based upon a pitch from the mayor where she used the same "talking points" that she had been using about the condition of the properties, crime in the area, etc. This mantra was carried forth by her Economic Development, Neighborhoods and Strategic Planning (EDNSP) department head, Alex Pietsch, and his planners. A classic example of this "mantra" can be found within Mayor Koelker's State of the City address, delivered not to the People of the City of Renton, but to the politicians and businessmen at the Chamber of Commerce. She knows where "to mine" for future campaign funds. |
